network operation

Actually, I am not currently teaching. However, I found this chapter very helpful because it gives me useful and clear information about the network operation that very important information to me as a future technology leader. This chapter covered five areas that technology coordinators have to consider when they establish network operations in their districts or schools. These areas are: network infrastructure, user-account management, e-mail system management, backup procedures, remote management, and Internet management. The author explained how each area could impact the success of a network system in districts or schools. Also, he clarified the important points and problems technology coordinators can face in each area.
In addition, after I read this chapter I found the shared storage area on the network really important and useful for students or faculty in any district. Thus there are a lot of benefits to use storage area such as: faculties and students can share information and documents. Also, teachers could create files for their classes on the storage area so that student can submit their work to this file. On other hand, all documents in the storage area are automatically saved and these documents are available to students in any location in the school computer lab, library, or classroom. Hence, the storage area gives chance for faculty and students to work from any location that access to network system.
Furthermore, faculty and students can share information and documents through email beside the storage area. The use of email gives faculty and students opportunity to share information or documents from outside their district or school. However, there are two types of email Systems. First, a client email system such as Outlook. Second, the Web email system such as Hotmail and Yahoo. Both of email types has advantages and disadvantages for example: with Client email we can attach any size and type of file but the attachment limited in Web email. On the other hand, we do not need to do any special configuration with Web email when Client email has to be configured.
Finally, as what I said before there are a lot of useful things for me in this chapter but the most important thing I learned is the acceptable use policy. Actually in my previous experience as a teacher I had never used the acceptable use policy. Also, after reading this chapter I can recognize how the acceptable use policy is important and it works to regulate the use of network system in the districts or schools.

software selection forms

Actually before reading this chapter, I have never heard about the software selection forms. Currently I am not a teacher; however when I was an elementary teacher, we never used this kind of forms. In fact, the ministry of education in my country provides the software for all schools depending on the available budget and latest software available in the market.
Moreover, not all schools have the same needs from this software. Hence, different schools are in need of different kinds of software depending on several factors. Such factors are, the teachers and faculty technology knowledge, type of classrooms, and student age. Thus, when the technical coordinator creates the Software Selection Forms, he has to consider all these factors to get the benefits from this form which will make this form easy to be filled by the administrators, teachers, and students. In addition, that gives the technical coordinator the opportunity to get good software which achieves the goals of education with appropriate budget. In brief, the benefits to use software selection forms are saving the time and achieving the goals by having the technology in the education system.

successful technology leader

I am a teacher in an elementary school and I don’t have any experience as a technology leader or technology coordinator, but when I read the chapter “district organization” I recognized the important point that can lead you to be a successful technology leader. There are various kinds of skills that the technology leader must have them. One of these skills is technical qualification that is knowledgeable about new developments in the educational technology. Although that the technology leader may not solve all technical problems but he must solve general problems, know the basic knowledge in educational technology, and be able to learn and update his technology knowledge especially because the technology world always has something new.
On the other hand, there are nontechnical skills which are very important to be successful as a technology leader such as: leadership, organization, and communication. Those skills can be helpful when the technology leader can persuade different people with different types and levels in the district administrators and teachers to use the technology in their school and classes. Also, technology plans like planning, budgeting, and information management skills have a huge effect to be a successful technology leader. With those skills the technology leaders study what the administrators and teachers exactly wanted from the technology to improve their school and class strategies. At the same time, the budgets for the purchase and maintenance of resources correspond to the district budget. As matter of fact, teaching experience is one of the factors to be a successful technology leader for the reason that he can know which kind of technology can be more helpful and useful in the class and can be promote the level of curriculum and students.
In addition, there are a lot of challenges that the technology leader has to deal with them, such as district budget, education software and curriculum, staff development and other many tips of challenges. Thus we can limit the challenges in the main five areas: budgeting and planning, teaching and learning, administrative computing, network operations, and desktop support that the technology leader has to give attention if he wants to be a successful leader. Finally, if you want to be a successful technology leader you should have patience in technology field because if you really like it, you will be so creative.
